:: Introduction of anime production ::
»Planning-1

There is a certain amount of time before we get into animation production. We call it "Kikaku Dangai=Planning Period(*1)". There are two kinds of "Planning" in the Japanese animation production world.

The first one is based on comic or novels. This is how it goes: As you can see "producers(*2)" under production company and animation production studios(*3) in the diagram on index page. Those producers will sit down at an annual planning meeting(*4) and have a (painful or joyful) meeting to discuss what they are going to produce in the next year. For example, producer A read an interesting comic (or novel) and he feels this is going to be a hit! So the production company will call the publishing agent(*5) and ask if the master rights(*6) have been sold. If not, the producer will propose their deal and see if they can get the rights to produce the anime version of the comic/novel. Otherwise producer A proceeds to the next target. This is "Gensaku=Base on (...) by (somebody)(*7)" and why viewers will see certain Japanese names after the copyright mark.

The second one is based on the "idea(=daydreaming)" of directors or animators who sit in their little cubicle working on their storyboards or designs in their spare time. Directors or animators who think their "dreams" will be interesting enough to make it an anime will start writing drafts or proposals to animation production studios. Luckily the boss of the studio feels the same way, so he brings the proposal to a production company or other entertainment companies to seek funds for production. In Japanese, we call it "Gen An=Original Concept/Story/Script(*8)."
