About "Armitage The Third Poly-Matrix"
|
"This is a story basically about how a robot struggles to survive
in the human society- computer technology has advanced significantly
these days, and this kind of thing could happened even today or
tomorrow. That is why I decided to tackle this theme. Although the
theme itself is a classic one, this time, I wanted to focus more
on the soft aspect of a robot, rather than emphasizing the mechanical
functions or the hard aspect. When I did the planing for Armitage
the third, I tried to imagine a girl born as a robot, and what society
would look like to her. This was the focus of the series. So, although
we had a tremendous amount of background with regard to the technology
of Mars, as well as each robot; her physical and emotional "specifications,"
I intentionally avoid highlighting it. We didn't even name each
robot (it's traditional to give a name to each single robot in the
Japanese animation industry). Armitage starts off as an incomplete
robot in terms of her outside (mechanical) and inside (emotional).
But she gradually becomes more whole throughout the series. That
is what Armitage is all about."
